Reading's housing is unusually mixed, and it changes what a job involves street by street. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Newtown, Katesgrove and parts of Caversham are the ones where we most often find rubber or fabric-insulated cable still in place, undersized circuits and a fuse box that predates RCD protection. The post-war and 1960s stock further out tends to have had a board change at some point but rarely a full rewire. The newer apartment developments closer to the centre are usually sound, and there the work is lighting, additional circuits and EV-ready supplies rather than anything structural.
